Inkulator9000 is an open-source software for creating graphic-novel style images from polygonal meshesA new approach to non-photorealistic rendering, by imitating the inking style of cartooning. An algorithm is described that simulates the artist's working methods and goals, rather than focusing on a physical modeling and lighting. It adapts an expert system approach, where artistic knowledge is embedded within the program logic.Normal maps are created for a mesh object and the information is used to determine if a given pixel will be inked or left white, by comparing to user-defined thresholds for the six sides of a cube.

Inkulator9000是開放原始碼軟體，用來轉換多邊形的模型來創造漫畫式的影像。這是NPR(non-photorealistic rendering)的一個新嘗試，藉由模仿墨線樣式的卡通，而採用一個新的演算法來描述、模擬藝術家的工作方式以及目標，而不是專注於實際擬真的模型以及打光。這個演算法採用了專家系統的方式，藝術家的知識是被包含在程式的邏輯之中。法向量的的貼圖會被創造出來而貼在多邊形物體上，並藉由相關資訊的使用來決定是否將點塗成墨線或是讓它留白，並藉由比較使用者設定六向方塊的數值而定義。
